Dive Fishing

The dive fishing industry is increasingly popular but involves a great deal of skill and training- and good eyesight!

Orkney's dive fishery uses hand gathering methods to collect shellfish from the sea bed. The largest dive fishery in Orkney is for King Scallops (Pecten maximus).

Diving for shellfish can be very rewarding but it is very important to make sure you are an experienced and trained diver and are up to date with the HSE Regulations (as well as the Fishing Regulations). Speak to Marine Scotland to learn more about the HSE Regulations by clicking here.

It is also important to make sure the area you are gathering shellfish is not polluted and  has no algal blooms that could harm humans. Click here to find out more information.
