How to Prepare a Crab

Materials

A crab, a rolling pin, and a sharp knife

(Top tip)- place a chopping board in a baking tray to catch any juices that might escape- makes the cleanup easier!

Instructions

Cook the crab- pop it in the freezer for 30 mins before taking it out and putting it in a large pot of salty, boiling water for 8-10 minutes. Drain and let it cool naturally to keep the meat tender.

The Claws:

  1. Pull off the two large claws and use a rolling pin to crack them open

  2. Pick out the white meat (you can use a toothpick to make sure you get every last bit)

The Body:

  1. Turn the shell upside down

  2. Hold the shell down and pull the small legs, which will remove the underneath of the crab.

  3. Pick out the brown meat from the body- the texture will vary but it's all edible. Remove any 'feathery bits' you see- they aren't edible. Pick out the white meat from the 'shoulders' of the crab
