How to Prepare a Crab
Materials:
A crab, a rolling pin, and a sharp knife
(Top tip)- place a chopping board in a baking tray to catch any juices that might escape- makes the cleanup easier!
Instructions:
Cook the crab- pop it in the freezer for 30 mins before taking it out and putting it in a large pot of salty, boiling water for 8-10 minutes. Drain and let it cool naturally to keep the meat tender.
The Claws:
-
Pull off the two large claws and use a rolling pin to crack them open
-
Pick out the white meat (you can use a toothpick to make sure you get every last bit)
The Body:
-
Turn the shell upside down
-
Hold the shell down and pull the small legs, which will remove the underneath of the crab.
-
Pick out the brown meat from the body- the texture will vary but it's all edible. Remove any 'feathery bits' you see- they aren't edible. Pick out the white meat from the 'shoulders' of the crab
